Da Nang is known for its beaches, bridges, and vibrant city lifeโbut just a short drive away lies a place where nature, spirituality, and breathtaking views come together. Our visit to Monkey Mountain, also known as Son Tra Peninsula, was one of the most refreshing and memorable parts of our Vietnam journey.
๐ฟ First Impressions: A Mountain by the Sea
Monkey Mountain rises dramatically from the coastline, covered in lush green forest and surrounded by the blue waters of the East Sea. As we drove up the winding roads, the air grew cooler, the city noise faded, and the scenery opened up into sweeping views of Da Nangโs skyline and beaches.
It felt like stepping into a peaceful sanctuaryโone where nature takes center stage.
๐ Meeting the Mountainโs Famous Residents
True to its name, Monkey Mountain is home to several species of monkeys, including the rare red-shanked douc langur, often called the โQueen of Primatesโ for its striking colors.
We spotted a few playful macaques along the roadside, jumping from tree to tree and watching visitors with curious eyes. Seeing wildlife in their natural habitat added a sense of wonder to the trip.
๐ Linh Ung Pagoda: A Place of Peace
One of the highlights of Monkey Mountain is the Linh Ung Pagoda, home to the towering Lady Buddha statueโthe tallest in Vietnam. Standing at 67 meters, she watches over the sea, believed to protect fishermen and bring peace to the region.
Walking around the pagoda grounds, we admired:
- Beautiful gardens filled with bonsai trees
- Marble statues of Buddhist deities
- Panoramic views of the coastline
- The serene atmosphere that made us slow down and breathe
It was a moment of calm and reflection, surrounded by nature and spirituality.
๐ Scenic Viewpoints and Hidden Spots
As we continued exploring the peninsula, we found several lookout points offering postcard-perfect views. From the cliffs, we could see:
- The curve of My Khe Beach
- The city stretching toward the mountains
- Fishing boats dotting the sea
- The endless horizon glowing under the sun
Every stop felt like a new discovery.
๐ A Drive Worth Taking
The journey itself was part of the experience. The winding coastal roads, shaded by tall trees and lined with wildflowers, made the drive relaxing and scenic. Whether by motorbike, car, or guided tour, the route offers countless photo opportunities and peaceful moments.
โจ Final Thoughts: Nature, Culture, and Calm
